Between Obi Of Onitsha And President Buhari

Biko, what is this underground rift between APC and my Royal daddy Obi Of Onitsha? Na so people just dey hit PA Bubu online for "ordering" a whole Obi Achebe to come and meet him in Awka. Well, there were some, on the thread I followed, who felt His Royal Majesty should have accorded Mr President that honour by going to meet him during his first ever visit to Anambra.


Come, why are you sounding confused? it's like you are lost? Oh, OK, you didn't follow that story? I thought as much, when you were busy bashing my candidate in Anambra governorship election, how could you have seen road? Onye ojoo 😂.

OK, the gist is that, while in Anambra for the final rally for the APC candidate, president Buhari had requested to meet with Anambra State council of traditional rulers in Awka for some sort of familiarisation. I don't want to go deep into the issue, but the bottom line is that the meeting never held.

Reason is that some ndi okacha mara, ndi no na ndo afu onwa felt it was a slap on Ndi Anambra's face for Buhari to summon "a whole Obi Of Onitsha" to come and meet him, instead of going to pay homage to the monarch. To them, after the rally in Awka, Pa Bubu should have driven down to Onitsha to meet Obi. For them, that's the right procedure. But I say, "fafafa, foul!" fa dalu ya.

Sometimes, I have a feeling that we've not be able to fashion out proper strategy on how to engage this government. Nna, forget that your marginalisation album; you've been playing it for too long without any tangible results. If you want to catch a rat, you must behave like a cat. In whatever we do in the name of politics, we must put the interest of the region first.

No doubt, the Obi Of Onitsha is a highly rated monarch in the country and deserves all the respect, but hey, not meeting Buhari was an opportunity lost. Even some of these people hailing Obi for calling off the session will still come back to say that Onitsha people are not "real" Ndi Igbo.
My brother, stop pretending, you know about that subtle rivalry between Onitsha natives and the rest of Ndi Anambra... nwa onye Igbo 😂. so, to me, that Obi is not getting that kind of honour and respect from government, like you find with Sultan of Sokoto, Ooni of Ife, Oba of Benin and my guy Emir of Kano has more to do with us, than Buhari. Onye kpoo oba ya nkpokolo, agbata Obi ewulu ya kpolu afifia.

Now, get it straight, that meeting was between Buhari and the Anambra State Council of Traditional Rulers, which has Obi Of Onitsha as the current chairman; it wasn't a private meeting. You then ask, where's the meeting venue for Ndi Igwe in Anambra and the answer is Awka. Therefore, why should Mr President go to Onitsha on this occasion?

In the first instance, Buhari's visit to Awka was purely political visit; requesting to meet with Ndi Igwe like he did in Ebonyi, was a good opportunity to engage Mr President. If the politicians were afraid to speak to Mr President on issues affecting Ndi Anambra, why didn't the Royal Fathers exploit that opportunity? Okwa asokata eze nso ekpulu nkata n'isi gwa ya okwu.

Ngwa, sebi we have been crying over the state of our roads, was that not an opportunity to raise the matter with Buhari personally? What of Second Niger Bridge? Abandoned Onitsha Seaport? Inclusion of Anambra in the list of oil producing states? Perceived marginalisation of Ndi Igbo in his appointments, restructuring, Ipob...there are so many things my Royal Fathers should have related to Mr. President. But in the name of politics and ego, we threw away the baby and the bathwater.
Don't forget that during the APC flagoff in Onitsha, they paid homage on Obi. In fact, I remember my friend and ichoku of Kaduna El Rufai went almost flat on the floor to greet Obi Of Onitsha. My dear, Onye oku na agba beya adi achu Oke. Chai, Obosi na ajo uzo!

Ngwa nezienu, few days after, the Oba of Benin packed all his chiefs and went to see PA Bubu in Aso Rock. Only God knows what he went to lobby for his people. Sometimes, you need to play a fool to get what you want. Nkwucha aburo ujo my brother... Nigeria bu okwe ka ana azu.
